Profile: I’ve always enjoyed art, but to be honest, I’ve never been much of an artist.  In my fifth year on the JET Programme here in Kagawa, I joined my friends for a “craft day”, where I learned to do kiri-e.  It’s challenging, but that’s what makes it worthwhile and I continue to develop my rather limited ability. There are imperfections in “Saudade” to be sure, but accepting them and learning from them is a part of the process of learning better technique that I feel should be embraced.  The piece I created for this art show is meant to be reflective of my dearest friends and most treasured memories from my time in Japan that I will always carry with me,  even though I’m back home in America.
